APPLICANT INFORMATION

Paraeducators

Orondo School District operates a Title I, Part A schoolwide program. All instructional para-educators must meet the federal NCLB requirements — Before Hire.

All paraeducators must have the first, essential credential —a high school diploma or GED (General Educational Development). Paraeducators can provide a copy of their high school diploma — transcripts are not necessary. With this credential in place, there are three educational pathways and one evaluation option a potential paraeducator can take to meet federal requirements.

  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education. The institution you choose must meet five criteria of the Higher Education Act, Section 101(a). All classes must be at level 100 or higher.

  • Associate degree or higher. All associate degrees are acceptable.

  • Pass the ETS ParaPro Assessment. The assessment measures skills, and content knowledge related to reading, writing, and math. Visit ETS ParaPro Assessment to see examples of the test.

  • Washington paraeducator portfolio or apprenticeship program — completed previously. Those meeting the apprenticeship requirements must present a journey card or certificate. The portfolio and apprenticeships are no longer offered for enrollment, however, OSPI will continue to honor this pathway

Substitutes

Individuals interested in substituting are welcome to apply at any time. All applicants must complete fingerprinting (learn more on the NCESD website) and fill out the Sexual Misconduct Release form (this must be completed for each district you have worked in).

EMERGENCY TEACHER SUBSTITUTE APPLICANTS

In order to be considered as an emergency substitute in the Orondo School District, you would begin as a substitute para-professional. This allows both you and the district to get to know each other, our school systems, evaluate your skills for behavior management, ability to follow teacher direction, etc.  After this time our school principal may approve the application to become an emergency substitute on our list.

Once you have been accepted to fill an emergency substitute teacher role you will need to go online to begin the application process. First, if you have not already done so,  you must create an account in the E-Cert system. Be sure to include your social security number. Next, the school district(s) wanting to hire you must look up your record, using your social security number, and complete a District Request for Emergency Substitute form.  After the district has done so, you can log back in and at the Welcome screen click on Apply for a Washington Credential Here.   The Emergency Substitute application should be in the list of available applications. Currently, the fee to apply for the Emergency Substitute is $54.
